The Request

Well here it is almost March already and I haven't posted anything new about gospel music
since January. Shame on me. I just haven't had the slightest idea what to write about.
Now you would think that when a person sets out to write about music that there would be lots to write about, especially gospel music.
As I have written before, I've been doing the music at the monthly birthday parties where I live. Now it seems like I've been doing more and more secular songs. When I started out doing this I told myself I would balance the two out. Kind of an even mix of secular and gospel. And at the same time I don't want to do so many gospel songs that the people think they are at a revival meeting instead of a birthday party. My prayer is that maybe someday I will be invited to do an all gospel type affair. As a matter of fact, usually the songs I get requests for are the older gospel songs. Songs like I'll Fly Away, Mansion Over The Hilltop and such. Although one of their big favorites is It Is No Secret. At the last party of of the ladies came up and asked if by any chance I knew the song He Touched Me. An old Bill Gaither song. It just so happened that I did and I sang it for her. It always brings me joy to see someones face light up when I know a song that they would like to hear. Most of the time I'll see them singing right along with me and once in awhile a tear running down their cheek as if it had stirred old memories. I'll leave you today with that old Gaither tune of He Touched Me.
Till next time, may God bless,
You friend,
Mike Rupe Sr.
