Time's Running Out

Haven't written anything on here since July and thought it was about time I did.
I've been struggling now for quite awhile just trying to figure out  how to go about writing this latest blog.
As some of you know I usually write about how a gospel song has affected either myself or some one else's life and as a rule I tend to incorporate some humor in the article. This time the subject is serious.
Back in the early nineties I wrote a few songs (always with the hope that maybe at least one of them might get recorded) one of them I called Time's Running Out it's a short little song about end times. I had come home one Saturday after attending the church services at our little Seventh Day Adventist church in Newton,Iowa. The sermon had been on witnessing. After I got home I was sitting there thinking about it and also about friends and loved ones. What would happen to them ? Would they be among the saved? As I set there thinking I also began to write down the lyrics of this song. One of the lines says "Where shall they be when time shall end" This didn't mean where they were  physically, but spiritually in their walk of life.
The pastor had talked about how we as Christians should help to spread God's word. I do think this is true and often times I have asked myself am I a good enough Christian to do that.
My life as been somewhat of an uphill struggle since I first started going back to church in 1991.I was an alcoholic and many times I would slip back into my old habits. But you know, God never gave up on me and for the last few years I've been behaving myself.
Since moving back to Des Moines,Iowa there have been many times when I'd run across someone I knew back in my homeless shelter and mission days. Some of them could see the change in me and would ask me how I finally got and stayed sober. To me that was the time to share some of the gospel and what God had done for me.
Now I am not a Bible thumper by any means. That is to say, I don't go out looking for people to share the gospel with just because of the fact that I've had my fair share of encounters with these type of people.
Most of those came while waiting on the bus or walking through the skywalk. A lot of these people had no idea where I was at in my spiritual life and were quite persistent  that I either listen or take their material. Guess they just figured that everyone but them were a poor lost soul.
Anyway I worry about a lot of the people I know and with everything thats going on in the world today, I always pray that they would seek out the Lord before it's too late.
There are times when I think who am I to try and tell people about God and his word. But if during the course of a conversation it comes up, well then I am more then happy to share and also I truly believe one of the best ways to witness is by our actions, what we say, what we do and etc. Even then I always pray for God's guidance during the day that I might say and to the things that are pleasing to him. and I know that if I can do that then I should be able to witness to people whenever the time arises. So I'll leave you today with the video I made of that song. It was probably the first one I ever made and put on YouTube, or used windows movie maker for.
Also if I'm asking that you all say a prayer for me that I can find a house to move to. One where I set up my new green screen and leave it set up. It's way to big for the apartment plus I need a place where I can record and not bother the neighbors.

So till next time.
You take care and may God bless,
Your friend,
Mike Rupe
