Well friends as I said before "Faith can move mountains while music can move the soul."
This time I was going to write about my recording CDs but I've kinda switched horses in midstream. Instead I'm going to tell you a story about how one gospel song affected me.
Back in 1991 I was cooking at this restaurant in Newton, Iowa. I desperately wanted to go to church. It was an Adventist church and of course their services are on Saturdays. Now my day off fell on a Tuesday and I had been praying for a way to be able to attend church. My boss which happened to also own the restaurant worked the morning shift with his day off being Saturday.
Now I had been praying about this for quite some time and nothing was happening. I was at the point where I thought I may just as well quit mentioning it in my prayers cause it just was not going to happen.
As was my nightly habit, when I went to bed I always fell asleep with the radio on. Sometime during the night I awoke and there was a gospel song playing. When I got up the next morning the song was still in my head but I could only remember a couple of the lines which went "Help won't help tomorrow if you give up today. Hold on a little longer for help is on the way."It was about the following week when my boss Bruce Showalter approached me and asked me if I would like to change hours and days off with him. This knocked me for a loop( now you know why I'm like this) and I was kinda dumbfounded for a minute or two. Of course it didn't take long to tell him yes. He told me that he had seen such a big change in me and he liked what he saw and wanted to do something to keep me like that. You know, before Bruce approached me those words to that song kept going through my head and I would think about them and as a result I did not give up praying for a way to attend church. I know some out there are probably thinking strange or coincidence, but I don't belive in coincidences. Well that was back in 91 and I had long forgotten about that song. I didn't even know the name of it.
Here not to long ago I had been praying about something and nothing seemed to be happening. Then one afternoon awhile back I was searching on YouTube for a new song I could learn and up pops this song by Doyle Lawson called Help Is On The Way. Naw, it can't be is what I was thinking so I clicked onto it and wouldn't you just know it? There was that song I had heard so many years before. The best part? I've seen some good changes in what I have been praying about. So you see if I had not had the radio on that night, tuned in to a gospel music station, I would have more then likely given up.
So my friends, a good gospel song cannot only sooth us, make us feel better or think but they can give us all hope. I thank God for that.
I'll leave you with that video I came across on YouTube.
Oh yes, myhealth tip for today is excercise regularly.
Take care and may God bless,
Mike Rupe Sr.
