Anyway, thought I would write a little about a song that I wrote called God Gave His All.
It was back around 1991 and I had been attending a little Adventist church in Newton,Iowa. If memory serves me right They were having a Prophecy Seminar which took in the book of Revelation and Daniel.
After going home I was dwelling upon it and was thinking how times would be, and it made me think of how God is our protector ( Psalm 18:2)and all that He has done for us.(John 3:16 &17) Also how many times I slipped and fell in my battle with alcohol and how God had picked me up and placed my feet back on the right path. This is a story in itself and I've included it in a booklet I'm writing (although my youngest son tells me that if I keep adding pages to it,that it will soon become a book instead of a booklet.) anyway, not to get away from what this article is about, onward we go.I grabbed a notebook and of course a pen, and started to write. It took me a total of about 15 minutes to put the words down on paper plus the music seemed to pop in my head as I jotted down the words. I had never really wrote a song before and to this day my friends, I believe the Holy Spirit was guiding me.
Of course this song has laid around for the last 21 years and I've failed to do anything with it. Oh I do it once in awhile if I happen to be playing at a church or a nursing home and often times I have thought it would be nice to hear it with a full band behind it, maybe a filler on a CD. But then, I have never pitched it to anyone. .
Now then a little about this blog. It's not just about gospel music cause that tends to put it in a certain category. And I certainly don't want to make it just about me.No it has to do with the old hymns as well as stories on how maybe you've heard a gospel song or a hymn and how it made you stop and think. As for me there was one time when I heard this song called (Calvary's The Reason Why.) Two of the lines in it were "Some times I just want to thank you, Without asking you for a thing:.Now that set me to thinking. How many times do we just pray for something in our lives with out thanking God for it when it happens. I know I've been guilty of that.So now I make it a point just to take time to thank the Lord for all that he has done in my life as well as for others. On another occasion while at a mission (I spent from 1999 through 2005 in and out of the missions and homeless shelters here in Des Moines, Ia) someone approached me and asked "How can you always be so happy and humming a song while you're living in one of these places?")Well the truth of the matter was, there were times when I wasn't You know what song I was always humming? It was the chorus to the song Because He Lives. The lines "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, All fear is gone, Because I know, Who holds the future, And life is worth the living, Just Because He lives. " The words to that song gave me hope and. helped me to focus on the good things instead of wallowing in my own circumstances ( for the sake of not getting into trouble for using those words from the song I must tell you that they were from the song Because He Lives which is just one of many great songs written by Bill and Gloria Gaither.) I never did get a chance to share with that young fella the reason for my being happy. He had already scurried up the steps and out of the building. So maybe you have a story about how a christian song has affected you or maybe a story behind a song you have written and would like to share with the readers. Of course I always like to end the blog with a video. Perhaps you have a homemade video of yourself or someone you know doing a song that you would like to share on here. If so you can contact me by email at rupesrmichael@aol.com and I will give you the details.Any of these would be most appreciated. It is my hope and prayer that this blog would grow and reach many people, so I'm asking that perhaps you might share it with your Facebook friends or on Twitter. I would like to see just how many people this would reach in the next 20 to 30 days Just click on the share tab at the top of this page. A little about the making of video that I'm leaving you with today. I am using a green screen so I can put in a different background then just a bare wall. As you can see, this is a learning experience for me. None of the equipment I use is proffessional, and the greenscreen needs to be bigger for all intended purposes. I have to use my bedroom when I record videos and there is not enough space to stand up in front of the screen and place the camera back far enough, so I do need to get a larger screen. I need to get some better lighting also cause I am using a pole lamp and a cheap yard light which I found out is not enough to light the whole green screen properly. One other thing before I leave, I do have some videos on Youtube. If you go there just type in michaelrupesr use only small letters and no spaces and it should take you right there. Thanks.
So till next time,
You take care and may God bless,
Your friend,
Mike Rupe Sr.
