I really like all kinds of gospel music but my favorite type as I've said before is country gospel. Maybe that is because as a teenager I would spend many a night laying in my bed listening to a station out of Del Rio, Texas. It wasn't as if I had just discovered music cause there was always music in my life. We always had the radio on. No tv around yet,and my mom was always singing a song whether it be around the house or when we were in the car. Also the church hymns that I would sing on Sunday mornings. No it was when I was twelve or thirteen that I started to like a certain type of music.
With the advent of television There would come along a lot of country music shows. Willie Nelson, Ernst Tubb,Tennessee Ernie Ford just to mention a few. They would always have a spot in their show that they called hymn time. You know even as a teen that was always my favorite part of the program. At the time I really never gave it much thought. But over the years whenever I would stop to think on it, well it was that part of the shows that seemed to stick in my mind. Maybe it had something to do with my love for singing those hymns as a youngster and I could relate to them. They had some meat to them.
Now I go to the Internet a lot (usually YouTube) to look for these older country stars and some of the gospel songs they used to sing.
There are quite a few places on the Internet where you can find these videos. Now not all of them show them actually performing the song. Some are done with photos as the music plays in the background. Even so, they are well worth listening to. I'll leave you today with this video from on of the Wilburn Brothers tv show' The title is An Empty Mansion. Enjoy.
Till next time,
Take care and may God bless you always,
Mike Rupe Sr.
